Honeybills

Overview

Honeybills is a platform that simplifies data and bill payments by offering affordable, reliable solutions. Users also enjoy the added benefit of earning crypto rewards, all through a seamless and user-friendly interface

‍

‍My Role

As a freelance UI/UX and brand designer for this project,  I managed multiple aspects of the design process, ensuring cohesive brand identity and delivering a seamless user experience across all visual elements.

‍

The Problem

Many Nigerians face challenges with overpriced data, cumbersome payment interfaces, and a lack of meaningful rewards for their data purchases and bill payments on existing platforms.

‍

The Goal

To design an app that would focus on cost effectiveness and convenience ultimately offering users an enhanced experience for purchasing data, paying bills, and earning rewards in crypto

Early Ideation

To kick off this solo design project, I held an in-depth meeting with the stakeholders to understand their vision and strategic goals for the app. During these discussions, I learned about their plan to launch a proprietary crypto token in the future. This token would serve as a reward for users who buy data and pay bills, offering them the opportunity to withdraw or utilize the tokens once they are listed.

User Research and Personas

Building on the business model, I conducted user research and interviews to identify the needs and expectations of potential users. A significant insight was that many users lacked familiarity with crypto and tokens, which could make navigation challenging. Based on these findings, I developed two key personas:

  1. Tech-savvy professionals who are comfortable with crypto and quickly understand token rewards.
  2. Non-tech-inclined individuals who have limited knowledge of advanced technology and may require simpler guidance.

Bridging the Gap

With these personas in mind, I focused on designing a solution that would appeal to both user groups. My aim was to bridge the gap between them, ensuring that the app was both accessible to non-technical users and engaging for tech-savvy individuals.

Design Principles

To guide the design process, I established key principles:

  • Convenience: Ensure a seamless and intuitive user experience.
  • Simplicity: Present crypto rewards in a way that is easy to understand, even for beginners.
  • Security: Build trust by integrating robust security measures.
  • Reliability: Provide a dependable platform for purchasing data and paying bills.

Core Features

  • Data Purchase and Rewards
Honeybills allows users to purchase data affordably while earning crypto rewards for each purchase. These rewards can be withdrawn and spent, creating a loop of value for users that enhances their engagement with the app.
  • Bill Payments
The app simplifies bill payments, providing users with a straightforward, efficient experience.

‍

Key UI Elements

The design features a clean and straightforward layout with a clear color scheme, enhancing readability and usability. The navigation is intuitive, allowing users to easily move between data purchases, bill payments, and reward earnings. Additionally, 3D graphics add a modern, engaging touch.

Challenges

‍Non-crypto users may find cryptocurrency complex, which posed a challenge for the rewards feature. To make this process approachable, I focused on simplifying the design, ensuring a seamless flow that makes redeeming and understanding crypto rewards intuitive.

‍

‍Solution‍

By adopting a user-friendly design that de-emphasized crypto jargon, we were able to create a more inclusive experience. The layout is simple, and rewards are explained in clear language, making it accessible even to users with limited crypto knowledge.

‍

‍User Reception‍

Since launching, Honeybills has gained an impressive user base of 200,000, with positive feedback highlighting the app’s affordability, convenience, and reward benefits.

‍

If I were to revisit the design, I would explore even more ways to simplify crypto-related features for beginner users, possibly through an educational onboarding experience. This project reinforced the importance of balancing complexity with simplicity in UI/UX design, especially when working with innovative technologies like cryptocurrency.
